QUETTA: In a disturbing incident, a man was subjected to brutal torture by the local police during an operation targeting bill defaulters and power theft.
The Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) recently launched an operation against bill defaulters in the city, which took a disturbing turn as police brutally assaulted a man who owed Rs20,000 in unpaid bills.
A viral video shows the moment when the cops asked the man to sit in a mobile van, which quickly escalated into a heated verbal altercation.
The confrontation soon turned physical, with the police resorting to violence. In the video, one of the policemen could be seen striking the man with a rifle. However, the police have not issued any clarification on this matter.
Commissioner Quetta Hamza Shafqaat took notice of the incident and informed that the ASI and constable have been suspended and shifted to quarter guard.
He said Superintendent Polic Saddar is conducting an inquiry and disciplinary action is also being taken. He said this was a case of electricity theft and action was being taken at the request of QESCO.
He said this should not have happened and will ensure it never happens again. He apologized on behalf of the government.
