ISLAMABAD: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation foiled a bid to smuggle foreign goods worth millions during special checking today (Friday).
According to details, Customs officials received a tip-off that some smugglers are trying to smuggle foreign goods out of Quetta. The team enhanced the surveillance at the site of Dr. Shaheed Abdul Qudoos Sheikh Check Post and started searching for vehicles.
During the search operation, the team intercepted a vehicle (ten-wheeler truck), which was going outside of Quetta.
During the checking, the customs team recovered a large number of foreign goods including 30,000 kilograms of iron wire worth 6 million. The customs team seized all the goods and vehicle used in smuggling, while the smugglers fled away from the scene.
Customs officials have registered a case against the unidentified suspects under the Customs Act and have launched a search operation for the suspects.
Earlier today (Friday), Police had foiled a drug smuggling attempt and seized 13 kilograms of the contraband in Karachi.
Two suspects were also arrested after police conducted an operation in Model Colony. A case has been lodged against the suspects named Saddam Khan s/o Haji Muhammad and Abdul Latif s/o Haji Rafiq who was charged under the Anti-Narcotics Act.
