DOHA: Qatar Airways has resumed flight operations to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia after nearly three years.
On a social media website Twitter, the international airways said it had resumed flight operations to Riyadh on Monday. In another tweet, it said flight operations to Jeddah and Dammam will be resumed later this week.

The move comes after Qatar’s three-year-old dispute with Saudi Arabia and three other Arab countries were resolved last week when Riyadh reopened its airspace and land and sea border to Qatar.

The Kingdom, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain severed diplomatic ties and transport links with Qatar in 2017 over what they called its support for Islamist militants, an accusation Doha rejected.
Earlier, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi held telephonic conversations with his Saudi, Qatari and Bahraini counterparts and welcomed the easing of the Gulf crisis over Qatar.
Qureshi received a telephone call from Foreign Minister of Bahrain Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani and congratulated his counterpart on the successful Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit held at Al-Ula in Saudi Arabia on 5th January 2021.
He appreciated the positive steps taken by all members of the organization that led to the successful resolution of outstanding issues. The foreign minister hoped that the spirit of cooperation will strengthen peace in the region and lead to progress and prosperity.
The two foreign ministers discussed ways to further strengthen and diversify bilateral relations and enhance collaboration in multilateral organizations, particularly the OIC and the United Nations.
