KARACHI: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) and Pakistan Yarn Merchants Association (PYMA) have asked the Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to extend the deadline for filing sales tax returns till May 31, 2021.
FPCCI Vice President and Senior Vice Chairman PYMA Hanif Lakhany and Vice Chairman PYMA and and convener FPCCI’s Central Standing Committee on Yarn Trading Farhan Ashrafi requested the federal government to reduce the holiday announced for Eid-ul-Fitr in the best economic interest of the country.
In a statement, Hanif Lakhany and Farhan Ashrafi drew the attention of the Chairman FBR and said the date for filing sales tax returns is coming up during the Eid holidays, as a result, the business community will not be able to file their monthly sales tax returns.
They said it is therefore imperative that the sales tax return submission date be extended to at least May 31, 2021, so that the business community can submit their returns on time without any hassle.
PYMA office bearers expressed concern over the NCOC’s announcement with reference to Eid ul Fitr holidays from May 10th-15th. They stated that the COVID-19 pandemic has already disrupted trade and industrial activities, causing severe business & financial crises for the business community.
In these circumstances, the nine-day holidays are by no means in favour of the economy. They appealed to the federal government to reduce Eid holidays to continue commercial and industrial activities and help the business community offset the losses caused by the epidemic.
