To meet the shortage of teachers, the Punjab government on Wednesday announced it would appoint 23,000 intern teachers in upgraded schools across the province.
Twenty thousand schools have been upgraded on the recommendations of members of the Punjab Assembly and social personalities of the relevant areas during the last five years.
Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, has also approved the Schedule of New Expenditure (SNE) for 781 schools. The intern teachers will be appointed in these schools.
During the tenure of the previous government, 1229 primary schools were upgraded and granted a higher-level cadre.
As many as 51 schools were upgraded in Lahore, while the process to appoint School Teacher Internships (STI) will be completed by August this year.
The approval of the budget will be obtained from the provincial cabinet committee.
The appointment of STIs will help to fill the vacant posts of teachers in the province. As many as 1200 school teacher interns have already been appointed in the province.
