Law enforcement agencies in Punjab have completed preparations for a large-scale operation targeting high-value terrorist figures linked to the extremist group Fitna-al-Khawarij.
The operation, which will focus on dismantling terrorist hideouts along the border areas of Punjab, has received approval from the provincial government, with a detailed report sent to Punjab’s Chief Minister.
According to reports, extensive surveillance and geo-tagging were used to track the movements of terrorists, with drone monitoring helping pinpoint the locations of key targets. The operation follows a year of significant success in counterterrorism efforts, during which 34 high-value targets associated with Fitna-al-Khawarij were killed in various encounters. Additionally, 192 other terrorists, who had established a presence in sensitive cities across Punjab, including Lahore, were arrested.
Key operations carried out by law enforcement include:
- Rawalpindi Operation: Three terrorists were killed, and a major Indian intelligence agency’s plot was foiled. A key terrorist responsible for attacking sensitive installations in Rawalpindi was also arrested.
- Mianwali Operation: Seven terrorists were neutralized, and a planned attack on a crucial meeting in Islamabad was thwarted. One suicide bomber was killed, and three other terrorists were arrested.
- DG Khan Operation: Three terrorists were killed in a targeted operation.
The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has vowed to continue its efforts in tackling the growing threat posed by Fitna-al-Khawarij, with further actions planned based on the evolving security situation in Punjab. Authorities remain on high alert as the operation intensifies.
