Male teachers can no longer wear jeans and T-shirts while female teachers are told to wear shalwar Kameez as Punjab School Education Department announced a new dress code policy for government and private school teachers on Tuesday.
Under the policy, female teachers are required to wear shalwar kameez with a dupatta during school hours, while male teachers are prohibited from wearing jeans and T-shirts while on duty. The department emphasized that these measures aim to foster a professional and culturally respectful environment in schools.
Moreover, schools across Punjab have been instructed to arrange proper facilities for Zuhr prayer during school hours.
This development comes after the Sindh Education Department introduced its own code of conduct last month, addressing teachers’ dress, behavior, and professional ethics. In Sindh, female teachers are encouraged to wear traditional attire, avoid heavy makeup, and refrain from wearing high heels during school hours, while keeping jewelry modest.

Male teachers are similarly required to dress formally, avoiding jeans and T-shirts. Furthermore, all forms of tobacco consumption, including cigarettes and chewable tobacco, have been strictly prohibited during duty hours.
Both policies underscore the importance of maintaining a professional appearance and upholding ethical standards within educational institutions.
