The Punjab government on Saturday enforced the Essential Services Act across the province against the teachers who refused to perform examination duties.
As per media reports, the decision was taken after the Punjab Chief Secretary took notice that most of the teachers refused to perform examination duties
After the imposition of the act, all school and college teachers have to perform examination duties and strict action will be taken against those who will refuse to perform the duties.
Service and General Administration Department (S&GAD) Punjab already issued a notification in this regard.
The matriculation examinations are being held across Punjab from March 4, 2025.
Earlier, Punjab Education Minister has directed authorities to enforce a zero-tolerance policy against staff members failing to report for duty and has immediately sought lists of those refusing to comply.
The minister emphasized that under service rules, no government teacher is allowed to refuse examination duty, warning that strict disciplinary measures will be taken against violators.
