LAHORE: In a bid to enhance security for shoppers ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, Punjab police have deployed female police squads on bicycles across various cities in the province.
The initiative, launched under the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, aims to safeguard women and curb harassment in busy commercial areas and marketplaces.
Under this program, cycle patrol squads—comprising both male and female officers—have been stationed at key locations to maintain law and order during the bustling shopping season of Ramazan’s last 10 days.
In Okara District, a special bicycle squad of 50 female officers has been assigned across the three tehsils—Depalpur, Okara, and Renala. Additionally, motorcycle squads and foot patrols of women police officers will remain active in these areas.
Similarly, in Bhakkar, female officers have been deployed on electric scooters to ensure the safety of women in shopping centers.
Women shoppers have widely praised the initiative, calling it a progressive step toward creating a safer and more inclusive environment for female citizens.
