A policeman in Punjab has been accused of causing the death of an unborn baby by kicking a pregnant woman during a raid on a house in Ferozewala, Sheikhupura District, Punjab province.
The Station House Officer (SHO) of Ferozewala said that the raid on Reza’s home was conducted on suspicion of mobile phone theft.
According to Dialogue Pakistan, officers from the factory area of the Ferozewala police station raided the home of a man named Reza and allegedly tortured a pregnant woman. The woman’s relatives reported that her nine-month-old fetus died after Sub-Inspector Abrar of Ferozewala kicked her in the stomach during the raid.
The woman’s condition rapidly worsened, necessitating emergency surgery at the hospital, where she gave birth to a stillborn child due to her deteriorating health. Doctors have indicated that the woman’s condition remains critical.
The incident has ignited widespread outrage among locals, who staged a protest at the Ferozewala police outpost in Kot Abdul Malik, demanding justice for the brutal act of police violence.
In response to the incident, District Police Officer (DPO) Bilal Zafar has formed an inquiry committee led by the SP operations to investigate the matter.
