ISLAMABAD: Punjab authorities have claimed to recover hoarded sugar, wheat, and other essential commodities worth Rs2 billion during a crackdown based on a tip-off from PM Imran’s Corona Relief Tiger Force.
According to details, the tiger force reportedly provided information about the hoarders, following which the hoarded commodities were seized.
During the crackdown, at least 16,000 tonnes of hoarded sugar were recovered. The authorities also recovered almost 716 tonnes of wheat, 2,000 tonnes of rice, 10,000 kilograms of unhealthy meat, and 800,000 litres of milk.
An official informed that the recovered stock was taken into custody by the Punjab government and would be sold out at market rate.
Prime Minister Imran Khan was also apprised of the recoveries made by the provincial authorities. He lauded the performance of the authorities for prompt action against the hoarders.
PM Imran has also directed the authorities that the recovered sugar, wheat, and rice should be sold in the market at the rates set by the government. He also advised the Punjab government to stabilise wheat prices.
Earlier today (Monday), PM Imran directed all the provincial chief secretaries for the formulation of a well-coordinated strategy under the Minister for National Food Security for equal pricing of wheat and flour in all the provinces.
