PESHAWAR: Police on Wednesday arrested Pashtun Tahaffauz Movement (PTM) leader and Member of National Assembly from South Waziristan Ali Wazir.
Earlier Wazir claimed he has no idea why the law enforcement agencies had arrested him even though he has received pre-arrest bail. MNA Mohsin Dawar said that Wazir had been arrested while leaving the Shuhada-e-APS Memorial Library in Peshawar.
Peshawar Police said Ali Wazir was transferred to East Cantt Police Station following his arrest. Central City Police Office Peshawar Ali Amin Gandapur said that a case has been registered against Wazir in Karachi.
He said a team from Sindh police had come to Peshawar they assisted in arresting Ali Wazir. He added that the lawmaker will be handed over to Sindh police after completing legal formalities.
Police said a case has been registered against Ali Wazir in Karachi over hate speech and making remarks maligning state institutions while addressing a rally in Karachi on December 6.
Sindh Home Department had earlier written a letter to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa authorities requesting Wazir’s arrest.
In March, KP police had registered a case against the lawmaker and over hate speech and desecration of the national flag. The case was registered on the complaint of Charsadda SHO.
