Different roads in Rawalpindi and Islamabad are closed due to the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) protest in the garrison city today after the government refused to allow the party a public rally in the city.
Key locations in Rawalpindi, including Fateh Jang Toll Plaza, Kacha Stop, Gulzar-e-Quaid, Shamsabad, Faizabad, IJP Road, Double Road, Katariyan Bridge, Pandora Chowk, and Khanna Pul, have been sealed off by the government with containers to encounter the protest.
Closed Routes towards Rawalpindi:
The expressway is closed at Khanna Pul towards Islamabad and the other side 1 lane access. Peshawar Road, 6th Road, Faizabad on Murree Road, Golra Mor, Waris Khan, Pirwadhai, Marir, Adiala, Adiala Road, Liaquat Bagh, Margalla road entry. T Chowk is blocked on both T. sides. Old Airport Road 11 both sides closed. Sawan (i Lane access).
Similarly, Islamabad roads are closed at T-Chowk, Koral, Khanna, Faizabad, IJP Junction, 26 Number, Golra Mor, B-17, and Margalla Cut on GT Road. These areas are blocked using a three-tier system of containers, dumpers, loaded trucks, and barbed wire.
Containers have been placed to block access to Liaquat Bagh, the protest site, including routes from Taxila to Rawalpindi.
The Punjab government has also imposed Section 144 of the CrPC in Rawalpindi division for two days banning public gatherings in the city.
The Metro Bus service has been suspended between Saddar and Faizabad, however, service from IJP Road to the Secretariat remains operational.
