The Punjab Cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, approved special compensation packages for security personnel martyred and injured during the brutal violence and attacks on police and rangers by PTI protesters in Islamabad on November 4.
According to a report by Pak Observer on Wednesday, the Cabinet strongly condemned the violence and attacks, offering Fateha for the martyred personnel.
The announced packages include Rs 29 million for the martyred Punjab Police constable and Rs 1 million each for police and rangers personnel injured during the unrest.
Madam Chief Minister highlighted, “A total of 172 police personnel were injured in the protest, many in critical condition.” She expressed dismay at the suffering of injured personnel being treated at CMH Rawalpindi, stating, “It is shameful that their attackers are our own people.”
Maryam Nawaz described the attacks as particularly savage, noting, “Security personnel were beaten by groups using nailed sticks and rifle butts. Many sustained fractured skulls, arms, and legs.” She added, “An SP was so brutally beaten with nailed sticks that his skull and brain were severely damaged, and his eye was swollen shut.”
She further revealed that a policeman was shot at close range, the bullet piercing through his body.
Madam Chief Minister lamented the tragic loss of life, particularly the constable martyred, leaving behind young children. “I have never witnessed such brutality and cruelty in my life,” she said.
