ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Member of National Assembly (MNA) Aftab Siddiqui has penned down a letter to Federal Minister Hammad Azhar over gas shortage in latter’s constituency, NA-247.
“Residents of NA-247, especially DHA Karachi, are the highest taxpayers in the country and contribute the most to the national exchequer. Regardless, they are deprived of basic human rights since 2012,” Aftab Siddiqui wrote in the letter.
He continued, “Besides the shortage in supply, gas is coming in low pressure and the obsolete pipelines allow constant leakage that stands as an immediate threat to residents. The SSGC, despite its umpteen promises has failed to replace these old and rusty pipelines.”
According to Aftab Siddiqui, the constituency comprises the oldest and most prominent business hubs of the country i.e. Saddar, Kharadar, Jodia Bazaar and Garden. “Minister Sahib, for days I have been calling and sending you messages on your number but have gotten no response from you whatsoever,” he wrote.
“With all due respect, this attitude of yours is pitiful and shameful, to say the least, and if it continues to prevail then the Pakistan Tehreek-eInsaaf (PTI) shall keep incurring heavy losses as seen in the recent Local Bodies Election of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” the minister warned.
The worsening gas crisis in the country as the temperature falls has also triggered hand-wringing among the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s own ministers, with many wagging fingers at Energy Minister Hammad Azhar for not taking the matter seriously.
