ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to launch an investigation against legislators who were exposed in a video regarding horse-trading during 2018 Senate elections.
A three-member committee has been formed to launch a thorough investigation against vote trading by some members of the provincial assembly (MPAs) during Senate elections after the video surfaced.
The committee comprised Fawad Chaudhry, Shireen Mazari, and Shahzad Akbar. It has been decided to ascertain the facts against those involved in horse-trading and submit recommendations to the prime minister.
The committee will also approach the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) seeking action against the responsible persons. Moreover, the committee will also forward its suggestions to lodge cases to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE).
A video had surfaced which exposed the horse-trading during Senate elections in 2018 by some party lawmakers who could be seen as counting bundles of currencies and hiding it inside the bag.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Human Rights Sultan Muhammad has resigned from his post after a video of vote-selling came to light. Prime Minister Imran Khan instructed Chief Minister KP Mahmood Khan to ask Sultan for his resignation which was promptly accepted.
Sultan Muhammad decided to withdraw from his post after his name was mentioned in the controversial video, saying that he is resigning on “moral grounds.” He said that it was “an honour for him to be a part of the cabinet,” adding that he is “unconditionally ready for all types of inquiries related to the scandal.”
