ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has challenged in the Supreme Court, the appointment of Mohsin Naqvi as caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab. The appointment has been challenged by PTI as a party and Asad Umar as Party’s Secretary General. The PTI is also understood to have challenged the appointment of Raja Riaz as Opposition leader in the National Assembly.
In its petition, the PTI is prayed to the SC to restrain Mohsin Naqvi from selecting / appointing any cabinet and / or he be restrained from performing any function vis-a-vis the issues of elections till the decision of the titled petition by the APEX Court.
Furthermore, the operation of the Impugned notification referred above be suspended and Mohsin Naqvi be restrained from performing any function of the stated office.
The PTI requested the APEX Court to take suitable remedial measures in liaison with all stakeholders to ensure that free and fair elections in letter and in spirit take place to allow a true democratically elected government to take over power in the province of Punjab as well as in other provinces of Pakistan.
The party is also reported to have challenged appointments of members Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Babar Bharwana and Ikramullah.
It may be recalled that the PTI had already rejected appointment of Mohsin Naqvi at the slot of Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister, with Imran Khan terming him as ‘worst enemy of PTI.”
