The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced a nationwide protest on Friday in response to the government’s proposed 26th constitutional amendment.
The announcement followed a meeting of PTI’s political committee, chaired by Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Wednesday, where the committee committed to opposing the amendment in both houses of Parliament.
In a statement released after the meeting, PTI expressed its strong opposition to the amendment, denouncing the mistreatment of its founding chairman, Imran Khan. The party has called for widespread protests across the country after Friday prayers, directing all regional and local PTI branches to hold large, peaceful demonstrations outside district headquarters.
The statement emphasized that the government’s efforts to alter the Constitution through these amendments would not be accepted. The PTI has asked all citizens who support the integrity of the Constitution to join this protest.
The PTI also demanded the restoration of Imran Khan’s rights, including the right to meet his family, legal advisers and party leaders.
