The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced that, in celebration of reaching 200 million mobile users, all mobile phone users will be given 2 GB of free internet data and 200 free on-net minutes for one day.
According to details, PTA said that the number of broadband users has reached 150 million, and fiber optic users now stand at 2 million. Mobile phone users will be able to avail the 2 GB of free data and 200 on-net minutes by dialing #2200#.
These benefits will be available to users for 24 hours only. In addition, 200 smartphones will be distributed among female SIM card holders, and free Wi-Fi hotspots will be established for six months at selected universities.
A formal ceremony was also held on the occasion, during which Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, said that the government is striving to conduct the auction of mobile broadband spectrum at the earliest.
She emphasized that the spectrum auction and a National Fiberization Policy are essential, and that work is underway to develop a policy to provide mobile phones on easy installments to citizens.
