LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Media Director Sami Burni has confirmed that three more individuals have tested positive for COVID-19.
“We conducted 244 PCR tests, in addition to the rapid tests conducted,” he said, while addressing a press conference in Lahore. “Of the 244 tests, three have come back positive. Two foreign players and one support staff have tested positive,” he added.
The PCB’s Director Media further said these three individuals along with Fawad Ahmed, who was tested positive for the pathogen yesterday, will undergo 10-day isolation before they will be allowed to rejoin the squad.
However, he informed, the remaining matches will continue as per schedule. “Test will be conducted on coming Thursday as well,” he added. Burney also confirmed that PCB and franchises officials will hold a virtual meeting, at 3:00 pm PST, to discuss bio-secure bubble protocols.
“The PSL organizing committee has sent a reminder to every team about exercising caution. This includes wearing a mask and avoid unnecessary movement on floors of the hotel,” he added.
In response to a question, Burni said that it isn’t possible to ascertain where the breach in the bio-secure bubble occurred. “You know that life inside the bubble is quite difficult,” he said, adding, “So is its management and as you said, it happens in sports events across the world be it the Formula 1 or the NFL.”
The PCB official said that there is no way to ascertain the causes of the bubble getting breached, saying that it was the collective responsibility of everyone, most importantly of the PCB, to ensure that the prestige of the tournament is not affected in the least.
