PESHAWAR: Protesters have set fire to the goat and sheep market in Peshawar during the ongoing protest following the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan a day earlier.
As per details, angry protesters burned the goat and sheep market near Bacha Khan Chowk on Tuesday night, according to Peshawar journalist Lehaz Ali.
According to the journalist, protesters became enraged as police began shelling them and set fire to the market. The journalist claimed that while the merchants’ tents and other property was destroyed in the fire, no animals were killed by the flames.
Meanwhile, as violent protests triggered by the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan continued for the second consecutive day on Wednesday, the military has been called in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Balochistan, and Islamabad to maintain the law and order situation.
The violence has also claimed at least four lives in Peshawar with Sindh imposing Section 144 to contain the violent protests staged by the former ruling party workers and supporters.
Mobile data services were shut for a second day while Twitter, YouTube and Facebook were disrupted, as security forces tried to restore order after violence killed one person late on Tuesday.
