ISLAMABAD: Students and civil society today (Sunday) stage a protest in front of the National Press Club against the extra-judicial killing of young student Osama Sati.
Osama Nadeem Sati, a 22-year-old resident of Islamabad, was shot dead by cops of Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Saturday. His father, Nadeem Yunis Satti, said that five policemen had followed his son before shooting him 17 times.
Relatives of the deceased also took part in the demonstration. The participants of the protests were carrying placards and chanted against the federal police and administration.
The protestors termed it a terrorist act. They appeal to the prime minister, interior minister and the capital administration to provide Osama’s family justice and take action against those responsible under the anti-terrorism act.
“The job of the police is to provide security and not to shoot at innocent civilians. Such actions are unacceptable. Police training needs to be reviewed,” they demanded.
Earlier today (Thursday), a local court granted a three-day physical remand of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel arrested for gunning down the 22-year-old young man.
Meanwhile, Chief Commissioner Islamabad Amir Ahmed Ali constituted a joint investigation team (JIT) to probe the death of the young man.
SP Saddar Sarfraz Virk has been named as the head of the JIT while the DSP Ramna, DSP investigation, the SHO of the Ramna police station, and representatives of intelligence agencies will join the team as its members.
