ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday granted protective bail to Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Imran Khan in an FIA-related prohibited funding case.
Imran Khan, it may be recalled here, had approached the IHC today, praying to grant him protective bail since the FIA had registered a case against him under the Foreign Exchange Act, of 1947.
Earlier today, the IHC registrar raised three objections to the bail application of Imran Khan, saying that he [Imran Khan] did not undergo biometric verification before filing the plea, attached an unverified copy of the FIR, and approached IHC instead of the relevant special court.
Chief Justice Athar Minallah, however, set aside the objections and picked up the plea for hearing.
After hearing the arguments, the Chief Justice remarked that since the case was related to FIA, it should have been heard by the Special Court. To this, the additional attorney general replied that It was surprising why the court concerned did not conduct any hearing of the case.
Minutes later, the Islamabad High Court approved Imran Khan’s bail in the prohibited funding case, till October 18 against surety bonds of Rs5,000.
