The budget for 2024-25, effective from July 1st, has led to widespread price increases across Pakistan as the government aims to generate more revenue amidst financial challenges.
Among various items affected, electronic goods have seen significant price hikes of up to 30% due to increased or newly imposed taxes. LED TVs, for instance, have seen price increases ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000. Similarly, the price of 1-ton AC units has substantially risen, now reaching Rs 85,000.
Smartphones have also become more expensive under the new tax regime, making it costlier for consumers to buy new models or upgrade their existing devices. Prices of laptops and desktop computers have surged as well, impacting students, professionals, and businesses alike. Additionally, cameras, audio equipment, and other consumer electronics have experienced notable price increases.
The prices of essential home appliances such as ACs, refrigerators, washing machines, air coolers, water dispensers, and electric ovens have also seen hikes of up to 30% following the approval of the new budget for 2024-25.
