KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MNA Abdul Qadir Mandokhel has registered a complaint to carrying out legal action against Special Assistant to Chief Minister (SACM) Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan.
The complaint states that Awan had used foul language and tortured him during a television show and hurled threats. He claimed he left the show to protect his life. The politician has sought the registration of a case against Dr Awan at Saeedabad police station under sections of harassment and threats.
Police officials said this is the second complaint application which they have received. They added that the application has been sent to the higher officers for their legal opinion whether the case could be filed in Karachi as the incident occurred in Islamabad.
Earlier Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan had sent a legal notice to the PPP MNA Qadir Mandokhel for leveling ‘baseless allegations’ at her during a TV programme.
She alleged that Mandohel used foul language against her deceased father and made false allegations of corruption against her. The notice gave the PPP leader fourteen days to not only retract allegations and tender an apology despite seeking Rs1 billion as compensation for defamation.
The incident occurred on June 9 when Firdous Ashiq Awan slapped PPP MNA Abdul Qadir Mandokhel after a heated exchange during a TV programme.
The video of the TV programme by host Javed Chaudhry shows Firdous Ashiq Awan rise from her seat and grab Mandokhel’s collar and then slapped him on the face.
Awan was heard saying that he does not know how to behave with a woman. The host kept trying to stop both of them and a female staff member also restrained Awan when she attempted to hurl a mobile phone towards Mandokhel.
In a statement, Firdous Ashiq Awan said that only one side of the picture was being shown during the show. She said Mandokhel insulted her father and such remarks have no place in politics.
She demanded legal action should be taken against him and the TV channel should release the full video of the incident.
