There is a possibility of a decrease in electricity prices in the quarterly adjustment for the entire country, including Karachi. Power distribution companies have approached NEPRA to reduce electricity rates by approximately Rs2 per unit.
A petition has been submitted to NEPRA seeking relief of Rs52.12 billion for electricity consumers. The petition has been filed under the second quarterly adjustment of the current fiscal year, and NEPRA will hold a hearing on the request on February 12.
It is noteworthy that electricity prices had been continuously increased earlier, leading to excessively high bills, which even resulted in reported cases of suicides by citizens.
According to some reports, the IMF imposed certain conditions on Pakistan, making electricity price hikes mandatory for obtaining loans.
However, over time, the situation has improved, and now progress is being made towards lowering electricity prices, bringing relief to the public.
