JHELUM: A poverty-stricken woman on Saturday killed her three daughters and subsequently set herself on fire in Haranpur village, on the outskirts of Pind Dadan Khan in district Jhelum, Punjab.
According to a private media outlet, the woman – identified as Yasmeen – slit the throats of her three daughters and later tried to kill herself. The police identified the deceased children as 5-year-old Zoya, 4-year-old Faiza, and 3-year-old Jannat.
The woman suffered severe burns and has been shifted to a hospital in critical condition. A police spokesperson said that the woman’s husband Faiz Ahmed was a rickshaw driver. Further investigation into the incident was underway.
Earlier in April, a poverty-stricken woman has committed suicide in Jati of district Sajawal. Reports said a woman, identified as Parveen w/o Khuda Bakhsh, resident of village Muhammad Uris Taimori in Jati of district Sajawal, hanged herself to death.
The police shifted the body to a local hospital for medico-legal formalities. The neighbours told the police that her children had been demanding her to carry out their Eid shopping that she could not afford and after being disheartened, she has killed herself.
