NEW DELHI: A police station in the Indian Punjab is reported to have been attacked with rocket launcher in Tarn Taran district on Saturday.
According to reports gathered by MM News, the attack took place at the Sarhali police station located on the Amritsar-Bathinda highway at around 1 am in the border district.
The door glass of the police station was found to be broken. Senior police officials have reached the spot to take stock of the situation.
Prakash Singh, SHO, Sarhali Police Station said that prima facie it looks like an RPG attack and forensic teams are on the way. The forensic team will tell you what exactly it is. They are checking everything and they will tell you. Nobody was injured.
It has been learnt that Khalistani outfit Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) has claimed responsibility for the attack at the Sarhali police station.
MM News has also learnt that the rocket-propelled grenade fired at Sarhali police station in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district was Russia-made 125 mm single-shot artillery, designed to penetrate walls of building. It is believed to be second such attack this year.
Indian media reports quoted sources in the Punjab Police intelligence department and Tarn Taran district as saying that the mastermind of the attack is being suspected as Canada-based notorious gangster Lakhbir Singh alias Landa, who was also behind the Mohali attack on May 9. Landa is also from Tarn Taran’s Harike village which stands 12 kilometres from Sarhali.
