Three high-profile terrorists were killed in a police encounter during a raid in Karachi’s Manghopir area on Monday morning.
The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) launched the operation after receiving intelligence that members of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) – Fitna Al-Khawarij – were hiding in a house in the area.
When police surrounded the hideout, the terrorists opened fire, leading to a fierce gunfight. All three suspects were killed in the exchange of fire.
CTD officer DSP Raja Umar Khattab told reporters that two of the dead terrorists were identified as Zafran and Qudratullah. Zafran had a Rs20 million bounty on his head. The third terrorist has not been identified yet.
According to officials, one of the killed terrorists was a suicide bomber involved in last year’s attack on Chinese nationals in Karachi.
Police recovered explosives, suicide jackets, hand grenades, and a diary with a list of targets from the hideout. The bomb disposal squad also cleared the house after the raid.
DSP Khattab said that all terrorists were killed on the spot. Police are now investigating who owns the house where the terrorists had been hiding.
