KARACHI: Police on Friday started a crackdown on the illegal charged-parking mafia in the metropolis.
as per details, the deputy commissioner for District South issued notification for a crackdown against illegal charged-parking mafia across Saddar with the first case already booked in Preedy Police Station against one self-proclaimed contractor.
On the orders of the deputy commissioner, the first case was registered against parking mafia contractor Aziz ur Rehman for swindling people in the name of authorized charged parking.
The DMC South authority has nominated alleged illegal parking contractor Rehman on sections 420, 348, 385, 341, 506, and 34 of the criminal procedure code CrPC.
DC South Sodhar has also directed all the assistant commissioners of town in his jurisdiction to also launch a crackdown against the illegal parking mafia. The illegal parking contractors are fleecing extortion from the people which should be immediately stopped, he said.
The contractors without freshly issued permits of charged parking spaces should be booked by the town authorities, the notification added.
Arrest the people other than legal charged-parking space labor and either put them behind bars or nominate them in cases, DC Irshad Sodhar said.
Earlier, the anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) South Zone had arrested Deputy Director Charged Parking of District Municipal Corporation (DMC) Korangi for taking a bribe of Rs 10,000.
According to details, a team of Anti-Corruption Establishment led by Sub-Inspector Sher Zaman Awan in the presence of Judicial Magistrate arrested Deputy Director Muhammad Yaseen for allegedly taking bribes.
The accused had said to be demanded bribe for illegal parking allotment in Korangi no. 6 markets. A case had been registered against the accused and an investigation has been started.
In this regard, Provincial anti-corruption minister Jam Ikramullah Dharejo praised the anti-corruption team for arresting a corrupt official, saying that strict action should be taken against corrupt elements of the society at every level.
