ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan’s day-long visit to Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) to announce a “historic” development package for the region has been postponed.
The prime minister was expected to announce the historic GB Integrated Development Plan during his visit. However, the visit has been postponed due to unsuitable weather conditions.
According to details, the prime minister was expected to make an important statement regarding granting GB the status of a provisional province of Pakistan. The development package includes clean energy, transport, communication, health, infrastructure, water supply, sanitation, and tourism sector schemes for the region.
With 3G and 4G internet facilities included in the package, construction of new grid stations, launch of Clean Energy, Hydropower and Health Card programs is included in the Rs275 billion for the region.
Earlier, the premier gave go-ahead while chairing a meeting on Gilgit-Baltistan Integrated Development Plan. The package envisaging development schemes in various sectors will usher in a new era of development in the region.
Earlier on November 15, Asad Umar had said the federal government would jointly work with the newly elected government in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) for the development in the region.
The minister took to Twitter and wrote that he had a meeting with Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid. He said that in the next few weeks, through a joint team, they will formulate a historic development package for Gilgit-Baltistan.
According to the minister, Prime Minister Imran Khan’s priority is Pakistanis who are from the lower sections and backward areas. It may be recalled that earlier, the prime minister had said that the path taken by Gilgit-Baltistan would change the lives of the people.
