ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed the attorney general of Pakistan (AGP) to approach the Supreme Court of Pakistan for seeking its help in empowering local bodies system Karachi.
In a statement issued by the PM House Media Wing, the prime minister said, “The longstanding problems of Karachi cannot be solved unless the elected local government representatives of the people of Karachi become financially, politically and administratively autonomous in the spirit of the Constitution.”
The Article 140A of the Constitution states: “Each Province shall, by law, establish a local government system and devolve political, administrative and financial responsibility, and authority to the elected representatives of the local governments.”
وفاقی حکومت آئین کے آرٹیکل 140 اے پر اس کی روح کے مطابق مکمل عمل درآمد کی حامی ہے۔ انہوں نے اٹارنی جنرل کو ہدایت کی کہ آرٹیکل 140 اے کے تحت سپریم کورٹ آف پاکستان میں دائر شدہ پٹیشن کی جلد سماعت اور فیصلے کے لئے عدالت عظمیٰ سے فوری طور پر استدعا کی جائے۔
