ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has refused to accept the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar amid signs of political development in the province.
Sources revealed that the chief minister had tendered his resignation to the prime minister but the latter refused to accept it, directing him to continue working in the same capacity.
PM Imran had said that Usman Buzdar was an easy target and no one else has done as much work as Buzdar. He maintained that change is not easy as it is a complete process while those who are contending for the slot have a problem with Buzdar.
Buzdar expressed his gratitude to the prime minister for entrusting him the responsibility and making him the Chief Minister of Punjab. “I am, and will always be, with Imran Khan and the party,” he said.
Earlier it was reported that Chief Minister Usman Buzdar had said that the appointment of Aleem Khan as chief minister of the province was not acceptable under any circumstances. He told the party leadership that either Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi should be appointed as his successor or he should be allowed to continue on the post.
Meanwhile, Punjab government’s spokesman Hasaan Khawar stated that Chief Minister Usman Buzdar never spoke against Aleem Khan, nor did he propose Parvez Elahi’s name for his appointment as Punjab CM.
“Some TV channels have broadcasted news stories in this regard which are completely baseless,” he said, adding that the chief minister had a firm belief in the leadership of Imran Khan and all conspiracies will fail.
Several senior leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had also supported the idea of removing Usman Buzdar as Chief Minister of Punjab. A day earlier, members of the Jehangir Tareen like-minded had expressed reservation over the performance of Punjab government and said the leadership of Usman Buzdar was not acceptable.
The group welcomed Abdul Aleem Khan and Sardar Asif Nakai and left the decision-making power to the leadership. Jahangir Tareen and Aleem Khan will also approach other party members and a power show would be held after the group exceeds fifty members.
