ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet will meet today on Tuesday to discuss the economic and political situation in the country.
Prime Minister Imran Khan will preside over the cabinet meeting to be held at the Prime Minister’s office to discuss a seven-point agenda According to reports, the ‘Pandora Papers’ which has exposed several prominent Pakistani personalities and companies are likely to be discussed in the meeting.
The prime minister has already constituted a high-level commission to probe Pakistanis named in leaked financial documents. Information and Broadcasting Minister Fawad Chaudhry said the high-level cell under the Prime Minister’s Inspection Commission will investigate all individuals mentioned in the Pandora Papers and will present facts before the nation.
The cabinet members will also be consulted on the appointment of Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Prime Minister Imran Khan will make a final decision on the appointment or extension in the tenure of NAB chairman after a government committee submitted its recommendation.

The cabinet will approve a reduction in the sentences of prisoners on Eid Milad-un-Nabi on the summary of the Interior Ministry. However, the sentences of prisoners involved in corruption, murder and rape will not be reduced.
The cabinet will ratify the decisions of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) and Cabinet Committee on Energy (CCoE). The ratification of the decisions of the Cabinet Committee on Legislation is also on the agenda.
Earlier a committee was formed to decide over an amendment in the NAB ordinance including Law Minister Farogh Naseem, Adviser on Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry and Adviser on Accountability Shahzad Akbar.
The cabinet members mulled over the amendment in the NAB ordinance and prepared a draft of recommendations to be presented before the prime minister who will decide on the matter in the cabinet.
On October 01, the Minister for Law and Justice Farogh Naseem presented the constitutional and legal options before Prime Minister Imran Khan and federal ministers regarding the new appointment on the NAB’s top position and to retain the current chairman.
