ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has urged the world to engage with the new Afghan government for ensuring peace and stability in the region.
PM Imran Khan, in his article published in Washington Post on Monday, said if we [world] do this right, we could achieve what the Doha peace process aimed at.
The premier clearly said that Pakistan should not be blamed for the outcome of the decades-long-war in Afghanistan.
PM Imran Khan said we must look to the future to prevent another violent conflict in Afghanistan rather than perpetuating the blame game of the past.
Once the Soviets were defeated, the PM wrote, the United States abandoned Afghanistan and sanctioned my country, leaving behind over 4 million Afghan refugees in Pakistan and a bloody civil war in Afghanistan. From this security vacuum emerged the Taliban, many born and educated in Afghan refugee camps in Pakistan.
Last week, Prime Minister Imran Khan in his interview with the International Media in Dushanbe had said that the Taliban government wants to assert themselves as a reality in Afghanistan.
PM Imran Khan had said that he did not know whether the United States was ready to recognize the Taliban government or not.
“However, President Joe Biden has made a wise decision and I understand,” Imran Khan was quoted as saying in an interview. He had also received many unfair criticisms while Pakistan wants peace in Afghanistan.
Talking during the interview, PM Imran Khan had said that Afghan soil was being used against Pakistan by three terrorist groups. Afghanistan is the most important issue in the region which is at a critical juncture as the propaganda campaign against Pakistan continues, asked the prime minister.
