ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has issued directives for the strict implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for cattle markers on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha to contain the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.
The directives came while chairing the federal cabinet meeting today (Tuesday) in Islamabad. The Federal cabinet discussed the country’s overall political and economic situation. Matters pertaining to the coronavirus situation also came under discussion.
Sources informed that the members of the federal cabinet expressed satisfaction over the decline in the number of coronavirus infections in the country. The cabinet members also stressed the need for strict adherence to precautions to keep the virus at bay.
The federal cabinet also discussed the unannounced load shedding by K-Electric in Karachi. Sources informed that the federal cabinet could not reach a decision on the issue of K-Electric.
During the meeting, Planning Minister Asad Umar and IT Minister Syed Aminul Haque opposed the raising power tariffs and said that the city was already witnessing prolonged load shedding, raising prices would be inappropriate. In this regard, the Prime Minister will chair a meeting to get a briefing after two days.
On the occasion, Federal Railways Minister highlighted the issue of the hotels’ closure and demanded to reopen the sector under SOPs. In this regard, PM Imran tasked Federal Minister Asad Umar to make a decision on the reopening of hotels.
Federal Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi also gave a briefing to the cabinet over the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) Report of Lyari gang war leader Uzair Baloch.
