ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed to take stern legal action against hoarding of sugar and profiteering.
These directions were issued by him while chairing a review meeting in Islamabad on Friday regarding steps taken against the sale of sugar at higher prices and hoarding of the commodity.
The premier instructed to ensure the installation of Track and Trace System to monitor sugar mills to know the exact production of sugar.
PM Imran said elements involved in undue profiteering are foes of the people and the state will take punitive action against them.
The Chief Secretary of Punjab informed the meeting that special instructions have been given to the administration of all the districts to enforce sale of sugar prices on fixed prices.
He said legal action has started against hoarders and profiteers. Besides, CCTV cameras have been installed at sugar mills to monitor the quantity of sugar cane and the production of sugar. PM Imran said information will be gathered from all sugar mills during the crushing season.
Earlier in the day, the federal government increased the prices of ghee by Rs109 per kg at the utility stores of Pakistan.
According to a notification, that is implemented with immediate effect the pack of 10-liter ghee that was sold for Rs2,500 will now be available for Rs3,590. This accounts for Rs109 increase in per kilogram of the essential commodity used in a daily household.
