ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has convened a meeting of the parliamentary leaders of coalition partners in Islamabad on Wednesday. The meeting is reportedly aimed at holding consultations after the Supreme Court’s recent verdict in the election case.

It may be recalled that the Supreme Court on Tuesday declared the Election Commission’s decision to postpone elections in Punjab as unlawful and without jurisdiction. The court has ordered the polls to be held on May 14. However, the ruling coalition partners have already rejected the verdict, but stepped short of announcing their strategy to challenge the SC order.

Media sources believed to be government circles reported that during the meeting, the coalition parties will discuss a strategy to highlight the government’s stance in parliament. It is expected that the coalition partners will come up with a united stance against the Supreme Court’s decision.
