Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a significant increase in prize money for Pakistani athletes who bring laurels to the country in various sports at national and international levels.
Under the new policy, athletes who win gold medals at the Olympic Games will now receive Rs 30 million — a threefold increase from the previous Rs 10 million. Silver medalists will be awarded Rs 20 million, while bronze medalists will receive Rs 10 million.
The revised prize structure also includes substantial rewards for winners in other major competitions:
- Winter Olympics & Asian Games: Gold medalists will receive Rs 10 million.
- Paralympic Games: Gold medalists will be awarded Rs 10 million.
- Asian Games: Gold medalists will receive 10 million, silver medalists will receive Rs 7 million, and bronze medalists will receive Rs 5 million.
- British Junior & US Open Junior: Winners will be awarded Rs 10 million.
- Asian Indoor Games: Gold medalists will receive Rs 2 million.
- SAFF Games: Gold medalists will be awarded Rs 1 million.
- Youth Olympics: Gold medalists will be given Rs 5 million.
- World Championships: Winners will be awarded Rs 7.5 million.
Additionally, prize money has been allocated for athletes competing in the Special Olympics World Games, as well as for achievements in Blind and Deaf Sports.
The Prime Minister’s decision has been widely welcomed by athletes and sports circles, who see it as a historic step towards promoting sports in Pakistan and recognizing the efforts of national heroes.
