The Lahore Traffic Police have announced that wearing helmets is now mandatory for both the rider and pillion rider (the passenger on motorcycles) in an effort to reduce the rising number of road accidents.
The police have further warned that individuals who fail to comply with the helmet mandate will face fines. However, a one-week grace period has been granted to female riders to adhere to the new regulation.
Lahore Traffic Police DIG Muhammad Athar Waheed made the announcement during a ceremony on Wednesday. “Now, not just the person riding the motorcycle will wear a helmet, but the passenger sitting behind will also be required to wear one,” he said.

DIG Waheed warned that violators would face strict action, including arrests. He also highlighted the enforcement of seatbelt usage in vehicles.
Officials revealed that out of the eight million registered vehicles in Lahore, 53% are motorcycles. The enforcement of helmet use has already contributed to a 26% reduction in fatalities from motorcycle accidents.
