To facilitate pilgrimages during the upcoming Ashura month, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has launched several additional flights to Najaf, Iraq.
Ashura is a significant religious holiday for Muslims, commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain R.A. It attracts large numbers of pilgrims, particularly in Iraq. Observed with processions, prayers, and rites of mourning by Shiite Muslims, holy sites like Najaf and Karbala see millions of visitors during this period.
The initiative, named “Operation Ashura,” began on July 5 and will include extra flights on July 7 and July 11.
PIA’s special flights aim to ensure a smooth travel experience for pilgrims, including their return journey. Return operations will start on July 20, with flights scheduled for July 21 and July 25 to bring pilgrims back from Najaf.
“Operation Ashura” highlights PIA’s dedication to meeting the needs of its passengers and supporting their spiritual journeys during this important time.
