There is a possibility of a significant decrease in petroleum product prices across the country, with petrol expected to become cheaper by 13 to 15 rupees per liter and diesel by up to 11 rupees per liter.
According to sources, following a major decline in petroleum product prices in the global market, a similar reduction is expected in Pakistan. Petrol prices may decrease by 13 to 15 rupees per liter, while diesel prices could see a reduction of up to 11 rupees per liter.
Regarding the price adjustments, OGRA will prepare its recommendations, and after the final decision on price changes, the Ministry of Finance will issue a notification.
It is worth mentioning that on March 1, 2025, the Government of Pakistan had announced a minor reduction in petroleum product prices. The price of petrol was reduced by 0.50 rupees, bringing the new rate to 255.63 rupees per liter, while high-speed diesel saw a reduction of 5.31 rupees, setting the new price at 258.64 rupees per liter.
It should be noted that in the past, petroleum product prices were continuously increased, leading to a dangerous rise in inflation and skyrocketing transportation fares.
On the other hand, despite the reduction in petroleum prices, transporters are unwilling to lower fares, placing an undue financial burden on the public.
