A petition seeking sedition charges against the Pakistan cricket team was filed in a local court in Gujranwala following their losses to the USA and India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
The petition, submitted by a lawyer in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Timsal Zaib Naeem, argues that a case should be registered against team captain Babar Azam, the players, the manager, the coach, and the chief selector for allegedly betraying the country’s trust and damaging national pride.
The court has taken the petition seriously, directing SHO Aroop to submit a report on the matter by June 21.
Pakistan began their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with two consecutive defeats, first losing to the USA by five runs in a super-over thriller on June 6 at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, and then to India by six runs on June 9 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. These losses have put the Green Shirts in a position where they must rely on other teams’ performances to advance.
Despite these setbacks, the Pakistan team registered their first victory of the tournament against Canada last night.
