The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved an increase in fares for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, citing persistent financial losses as the primary reason. Effective July 1, 2025, the per-stop fare will rise by Rs10.
According to reports, passengers traveling up to 5 kilometers will now be charged Rs30, up from the previous Rs20. For journeys extending to 40 kilometers, the fare will increase from Rs60 to Rs70. The cost of a single-ride ticket has also been revised upward, now set at Rs70.
The provincial Transport Department has described the adjustment as a necessary measure to address the mounting financial burden faced by the BRT service.
Earlier, the federal government announced a nationwide fuel price hike. In a notification issued by the Finance Division, the price of petrol has been raised by Rs4.80 per liter, bringing it to Rs262.59, effective from June 16, 2025. The cost of high-speed diesel has also been increased by Rs7.95 per liter, rising from Rs253.63 to Rs258.43.
