KARACHI: Following the blast at a madrassah in Peshawar, security has been beefed up in Islamabad and the metropolis to avoid any other possible attack.
Islamabad Police Inspector General (IGP) has to raise the status of security in the federal capital to a ‘red alert’ while he strongly directed all senior police officers to personally check the status of security measures adopted in their respective areas.
A police spokesperson has informed that the IG Islamabad has also directed the law enforcement agency for stepping up checking at the entry and exit points of the city.
“Security has been stepped up at the Red Zone and government and other buildings in the city,” a police spokesman said. The police chief has also directed the officers to visit Imambargahs, religious seminaries, and inspect the level of security.
Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Sindh Police has also issued an alert for the provincial police. The IG said that police patrolling, picketing, and snap checking should be made more efficient.
The SPs, DSPs, and SHOs have been instructed to become more alert. IG Sindh further said that strict security measures should be put in place outside mosques, imambargahs, and other areas across the province.
Earlier in the day, at least seven people were killed and more than 70 others injured in a blast at a madrassah in Peshawar’s Dir Colony. Those killed and injured include madrassah students aged between nine and 15 years.
Police and rescue teams rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to Lady Reading Hospital, where a medical emergency was declared with medics and paramedics called to cope with the situation.
