ISLAMABAD: The personal data of more than two million people has been stolen from the system of the National Database Registration Authority (Nadra) from 2019 to 2023.
According to an investigation report, the unexpected revelations were prepared by the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) formed in March 2023 to probe the serious breach of data in Nadra.
The report has been submitted to the Ministry of Interior, recommending stern action against various officers of Nadra for showing negligence that led to the data theft incident.
Geo News reported that the data was stolen from the Multan, Karachi, and Peshawar offices of Nadra. As per the JIT report, the stolen data was seemingly later sold in Argentina and Romania.
