The toughest thing to do is to make someone laugh. However, some of our entertainers find it easy to do, that’s why they not only entertain people but also the audience enjoy it.
One of the entertainers is Mubeen, a co-creator of the highly popular ‘Bekaar Films’. MM News talked to Mubeen and the YouTuber shared how does he choose the audience for his videos.
MM: On what basis do you choose your audience?
Mubeen: If we talk about masses then there are women, children, and heterogeneous audiences, so I always focus on family-oriented content.
MM: Which has comedy moved from genuine punchlines towards vulgar content?
Mubeen: I am personally not against using foul language in videos, but on the platform that I work on, I try to maintain content that everyone can see with each other.
MM: Why are you not against using foul language in your videos?
Mubeen: Every person has their own choice. One cannot be forced to watch anything. My team tries to add everything in one single platter and yet make it a treat for the audience.
MM: When you started making videos, did you think it will be loved by the audience?
Mubeen: People used to take it as a joke when we first started making the videos. We used to do it for fun not for viewership because at that time clips were posted on Facebook. It is easy to get likes but maintaining the audience for such a long time is important and it took 10 years to achieve that.
MM: How difficult or easy it is to make money from the YouTube?
Mubeen: I would not say it is though. If I talk about our work then it is a passion turned profession. People find ways to entertain and people make a variety of creativity through Youtube videos and earn money in dollars because this platform is not limited to comedy but travelling, cooking, education and many other things. Most people earn through a review of a product.
MM: Do you think YouTubers should work on education like Junaid Akram talks about libraries?
Mubeen: Our basic aim is to entertain people like Junaid. He also rants over something but in a humourous way. We do try to aware people through our videos like we made a video ‘Jahil Awam’, the title was a bit harsh but we spread awareness and entertain the audience at the same time.
MM: How do you face criticism?
Mubeen: The criticism we face is not constructive, most of the people post hate comments on basis of seeking attention. There are barely people who would criticise the content, they just use hateful words to grab the attention but we ignore such comments of hateful words, for me, it’s not even a criticism.
MM: Why do people watch YouTube videos more than TV dramas and films now?
Mubeen: First of all, our content is relatable, and second nowadays the audience likes basic stories. They want to see something relatable to them, such content people won’t see on TV dramas. That’s why people like videos on YouTube the most.
MM: What is your stance on banning digital platforms in Pakistan?
Mubeen: First of all, we should ask if one has a substitute for it or not? For example, newborn babies who are on mother feed are given a substitute of powder milk, the same happens with smokers.
I don’t think banning is a good idea as our state should have that strength to have its own digital platform. When India banned Chinese apps, it had already launched its own app. So do not ban the app if the state cannot provide a substitute.
MM: Have you ever made a video that landed you in hot waters?
Mubeen: Fortunately, none of our videos has become controversial, because we never make videos on religion and politics, we play safely. For me religion is personal and everyone should respect it. Unfortunately by the passage of time, our society has become judgemental. We convey messages on our platform in a lighter note.
