LAHORE: The Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan has said that the people of Pakistan would continue to resist attempts of attack on Supreme Court by ‘cabal of crooks’.
His comment came minutes after news reports that Standing Committee of the National Assembly on law and justice approved the Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Bill, 2023. After the approval of the bill by the law and justice committee, it is set to be tabled in National Assembly for passage and to be forwarded to Senate for consideration.
The bill calls for establishing a committee comprising three senior judges to take the decision regarding the initiation of suo-motu notice, includes a clause regarding the rights of challenging the notice which could be filed within 30 days and will then be fixed for a hearing in two weeks’ time and suggests that every cause lists, appeal, or matter before the Supreme Court shall be heard and disposed of by a bench constituted by the committee comprising the Chief Justice of Pakistan and two senior judges of the supreme court, in order of seniority.
