ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has imposed a ban on the airing of 11 people who have been declared ‘fugitive’ or proclaimed offenders.
The regulator authority said the Sindh High Court has ordered that an individual who has been declared a proclaimed offender/absconder does not have any right to appear on TV.
Therefore, it said the authority “prohibits media coverage” on the individuals being proclaimed offenders on electronic media and “refrain from airing any news, report, statement or tickers.”
It warned that in case of any violation, legal action under relevant provisions of PEMRA laws shall be initiated.
The ban is imposed on Syed Akbar Hussain, Sabir Shakir, Moeed Pirzada, Wajahat Saeed Khan, Adil Farooq Raja, Haider Raza Mehdi, and Shaheen Sehbai.
The ban has also been imposed on PTI leaders Ali Nawaz Awan, Farrukh Habib, Murad Saeed and Hammad Azhar.
PEMRA directed to ban all these people from appearing on TV and any news regarding them is also banned.
