LAHORE: The senior leadership of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has been warned of a possible ‘terrorist activity’ or ‘assassination’ on December 13, the day of the Opposition’s rally in Lahore.
The Lahore police have sent warning letters to PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz, PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and other lawmakers.
According to the letter, “TTP terrorists are coordinating to carry out the terrorist activity on 13 December 2020. Although details regarding the place of terrorist activity and likely targets are not available, the date (13 December 2020) appears to be significant as a huge public gathering is expected in Lahore.”
The letter further stated that after they failed in Peshawar, the terrorists were planning to shift their operatives, required material, and logistics towards another place. “A meeting was held on December 8 on the Western border to upsurge (sic) terrorist activities in Pakistan”, it added.
The letter also warned that these hostile intelligence agencies may also carry out assassinations of senior political personalities associated with PDM to create instability in the country.
Earlier in the day, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar urged the opposition parties to postpone their December 13 Lahore rally in light of terror threat alerts and the coronavirus situation.
Talking to journalists in Lahore, the Punjab Chief Minister has called upon the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) to resolve issues through dialogue. “It is not appropriate to play with the people’s lives like this,” he added.
